Privacy policy

Effective Oct 20, 2026. The short version: no accounts, no ads, no selling your information.

This policy explains what information Put-In (the "site") collects when you visit, how we use it, and the choices you have. The site is run by [site owner name] ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy can be sent to [contact email] or through our contact page.

The short version

  • You don't need an account to use the site, and we don't ask for your name or email unless you contact us or sign up for alerts.
  • We don't show ads and we don't sell your personal information.
  • When you click a link to a partner (for example a boat rental or gear store), we record that a click happened so we know which pages are useful. We don't record your name or IP address with it.
  • Your trip planner choices and packing list are saved only in your own browser.

Information we collect

When you click a partner link

Every link that leaves the site goes through a short redirect on our domain. When you click one, we store:

  • which partner you clicked (for example "boatsetter") and which page you clicked it from,
  • the approximate country and state or region, as estimated by our hosting provider from your connection,
  • the address of the page that referred you, if your browser sends one,
  • the date and time.

We don't store your IP address, name, email or any account identifier with these records. We use them to see which pages and partners people find useful.

When you contact us

If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the topic, and what you write. We use this only to read and reply to your message, and to fix anything you report. We keep messages for up to two years, or less if you ask us to delete them.

When you sign up for alerts

If you ask us to email you when a lake or river is stocked, we store your email address, the water you picked, and the date you signed up. We use it only to send those alerts. Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to delete your address at any time.

Information saved in your browser

The trip planner and packing list remember your choices using your browser's local storage. That information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Information collected automatically by service providers

Like any website, loading a page sends your IP address and basic browser information to the servers that deliver it. The site uses these providers:

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the partner-link redirect and contact form. Cloudflare processes connection data, including IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
  • Supabase stores partner-click records, contact form messages and alert sign-ups.
  • Resend delivers alert emails.
  • Google Fonts provides the site's typefaces.
  • unpkg delivers the map software, and OpenFreeMap delivers the map tiles.
  • Wikimedia Commons, the National Park Service and Recreation.gov serve the photos shown on pages.

Each provider handles that data under its own privacy policy. We don't use analytics trackers, advertising pixels or social media widgets.

Cookies

The site itself does not set tracking or advertising cookies. When you follow a partner link and leave the site, the partner, or the affiliate network that runs its program, may set cookies on its own site to credit us for your visit or purchase. Those cookies are governed by that company's privacy policy, not this one.

How we share information

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share information only:

  • with the service providers listed above, so they can run the site for us,
  • if required by law, or to protect the site, our users or others from fraud or harm.

Partner companies don't receive your contact information from us. If you book or buy something from them, you share information with them directly.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we have about you, correct it, or delete it. Because we keep very little, this usually means messages you've sent us. Send the request to [contact email] or choose "A privacy request" on the contact form. We'll respond within 45 days.

California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know, correct and delete personal information we hold about you, and the right not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that law.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: because we don't track you across other websites or sell your information, there is nothing for these signals to switch off on this site.

Children

The site is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use reputable providers, encrypted connections and restricted access to stored data. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, but we keep what we collect to a minimum.

Links to other websites

Partner sites and other websites have their own privacy practices. Please read their policies before giving them your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we'll also note it on the home page for 30 days.
